It's such a cliché that it may fall upon deaf ears these days. The thing is, though, that it probably reigns true in today's society more than ever: if you stand for nothing you fall for anything!

This has been the conversation over the past few weeks with several organizations and clients. How do we articulate our north star, our guiding light?

How do we create more synergy both within teams and across teams? Is there a way to measure what's working (or not) and make quick, easy, snap decisions?

There is: it all comes down to your stand, mission, vision, and values.

These pieces are your north star. They're your guiding light that all decisions must be able to stack up to. Your stand exposes integrity gaps, let's you know if you're staying on track, and gives you a suit of armor to shield you from things against what you value.

Does this mean we need to be arrogant and intolerant of other people's views?

Absolutely not. Compassion and understanding go a long way, especially in today's world where we're more disconnected and malcontent than ever.

While it is healthy to expose ourselves to different views and differences of opinion, it takes a lot of courage and strength to be unwavering in our stand. If you waver - it's probably not your stand. Your stand is an unquestionable part of your being.

When things aren't aligned, be it people, things, places, whatever, it's easy to make a decision and walk away. It's just as easy to take the next step when things are lined up.
